Respresentation

First stereotype
The first stereotype would be the 'burlesque girl' look in the 2000's. This is clearly highlighted in the music video below, including Christina Aguilera. This music video was extremely recognised for the raunchy clothing and seductive dancing, location and icons used throughout the music video.

Second stereotype

This is seen as the stereotypical 'stripper view'. This view usually consists of bras, G-strings, Bum wiggles, 'the open crutch' and stripper shoes. This is basically when the artist is stripped down, wearing hardly any clothes. This gives women a weaker view as it undermines the power and intelligence of women. It gives women a stereotypical view that women are only good for their figures.

Third stereotype

The third stereotype is the 'gangsta hoe'. This is sexualisation of women. This is where the women are stereotypically seen to be dressed in bikini tops, ripped and tight shorts, the backward cap and tattoos.

 

Voyeurism and Female Gaze

This video here is showing Voyeurism. Voyeurism ' the erotic pleasure can be gained by looking at a sexual object'. This video is a contradiction of the usual voyeurism in the fact that it is usually a women performing the sexual actions. 

Male Gaze 

This Rihanna music video ft. Drake is the perfect video to show the male gaze. There is sex everywhere in this video. There are sexual actions being performed all over the club and the camera quite clearly focuses on them. This video is all geared up towards the male gaze. We can see this from her outfits, her outfit is see-through and we can see her bra and her g-string.

Homosexuality 

This video perfectly shows the homosexuality in this video. There are two women in this who are clearly in a relashionship. They dont care and no one cares about that fact that they are in a relashionship they are more worried about the fact that they have no shoes and no shirts on.

No Rest- Dry the River

In today's lesson we heard a song by a band and we didn't see the video. We had to think what the music video would be like. After we had heard the song we compared ideas, listed below are some of the results that the class came up with:

• love story set in a field
• break ups and the man stalking the woman wanting to be with her
• weddings
• couple in a big old house going through a tough time
• busking
• flashbacks
• set in a desert

I liked the busking idea at the start as from the music it sounded like it could of been the type of group that they would of been. 

After we compared ideas we then read the lyrics. 

Andrew Goodwin- Music Video Theory

Andrew Goodwin Theory - Music videos ignore common narrative as they are essentially advertisements. We make up our own minds about the meaning of the song.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

1) A relationship between the lyrics and the visuals, which illustrate, amplify or contradict the lyrics. E.g. Jessie J music video "Price Tag" she says "its not about the money", but then she is seen standing under a tree that is growing money which contradicts her lyrics.



 

 2) Thought beats: seeing the sounds (the relationship between the music and the visuals, which illustrates, amplifies and contradicts the lyrics). The lyrics go with the video e.g. Bounce by Calvin Harris the lyrics.

 

                                              

 

 

3) Genre - related style and iconography present e.g. Kiss because they always play with white make up on whilst wearing black.

 

 

 

4) Multiple close up of the main artist or vocalist: The creation of the star image to promote a recognizable brand image e.g. JLS promote themselves because they are attractive, this means girls are drawn in due to sexually attraction.

 

5) Voyeurism often plays a major part, especially in a relation to females. e.g. this is shown by Britney Spears as she uses her image and to her advantage to attract men to watch her videos. This is called the ' male gaze'.

 

 

6) Inter textual references to other media texts may be present, especially in humorous videos. sing one video to visually promote and be a direct reference to another media text. By recognizing links between two media it will make it more memorable.

 



3 Music Videos

Dancing On My Own- Callum Scott

This song was sung on BGT last year by a contestant. It was so good and I played it over and over again. The song just seems to go really well and when I was up in London walking around with my Nan a busker was singing this song and she also said she really liked it.

Wet Dreamz- J Cole

This song reminds me of a holiday I went on a family in Barcelona and when we arrived to the beach this was the song playing. It was really weird because my cousins are from all over the world and we all knew the words to it. It was really strange to know that although we are all from different countries and continents we could unite to sing the song.

Gold Digger- Kayne West and Jamie Foxx

This song was played at the prom after party and it was a really good, funny night. I was with all my friends and when everyone was singing along it showed how close we had all become through Baddow.
